A time for art, play, telling your story,
leaving your mark, & community-building!
Use colored pencils, markers, paint pens, collage, and more to design a toy
wooden block...the kinds kids build with! ALL of the wooden blocks from MANY
community Block Parties will be assembled in the end to form three big block
sculptures, one at South Haven Memorial Library, one at the The Mitten
children’s museum, and one at the South Haven Center for the Arts.
These organizations are the direct collaborators in a project called Create and
Connect. This project has been made possible through a Community Partners
grant from a partnership between the Michigan Arts and Culture Council and
Arts Midwest. The grant asks communities to use arts and cultural projects to
foster partnerships and to tackle problems important to the community. We
have chosen to focus on community healing after two years of pandemic stress
and isolation, as well as from trauma. We are exploring storytelling, art, and
play as tools for mental health and well-being. Our hope is to include as many
members of our community as possible.
We invite you to join us!
