The Van Buren Conservation District invites volunteers to join us Sunday,
September 18th from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM for our Kal-Haven Trail Clean Up event. We will meet
at the Kal-Haven Trail Sesquicentennial State Park (take Blue Star Hwy North of Phoenix Rd.,
turn to take E Wells St. West, and exit the roundabout on the first right to head North onto
Bailey Ave.) parking lot in South Haven and start picking up trash from there.
The Van Buren Conservation District has a long history of getting out into the community and
cleaning up spaces in need of attention. In the past, we have worked with volunteers and
partnering organizations to conduct river and roadside clean ups, and we look forward to
continuing that work this Fall.
The Kal-Haven State Trail is a gem in Van Buren County. The 34-mile trail crosses the county
with two cities on its ends and villages, forests, wetlands, farmland, and prairies in-between.
The trail includes signage on local history, a ghost town, and parks with ample space for
picnics or breaks. The Kal-Haven Clean Up event will help clear part of this beautiful trail of
trash to allow its natural beauty shine through for all to enjoy.
Volunteers need to pre-register to ensure there are enough supplies. To participate, all
volunteers will need to sign waivers and register themselves. Minors need an adult present to
participate. Gloves, high vis vests, and trash pickers, will be provided; however, volunteers are
welcome to bring their own supplies. We encourage volunteers to dress for the weather and
to wear appropriate footwear.
