  • In the South Haven area excellence is the standard when it comes to education, and the results are impressive! The South Haven Public School District strives for quality learning experiences for students from birth through high school and beyond, providing measured success. U.S. News & World Report named South Haven high school among the top 55 in Michigan and in the top 300 nationwide. The district's 2,200 students benefit from small class size, relevant curriculum and robust arts and athletic programming.

    Younger children and families are afforded the advantage of half-day or all day preschool and onsite daycare. When students reach their junior and senior year of high school they have the opportunity to participate in dual enrollment at Lake Michigan College in South Haven and take college-credit courses while still working toward their high school diploma. The ability for students to earn credit and families to save money is phenomenal; in 2008, 186 high school students enrolled in college classes through Lake Michigan College earning 572 credit hours and saving parents roughly $100,000 in tuition dollars!

    Lake Michigan College’s South Haven Campus with nearly 42,000-square-feet offers certification and degrees in 50 programs, including nursing, early childhood education and business administration, ensuring viable job training is available to satisfy a variety of career goals, meet the need for skilled workers and provide lifelong learning opportunities.

    Other area K-12 educational options in the greater South Haven area include Glenn Public School, the oldest continuing one room school in Michigan, instructing students K-6; two K-8 parochial institutions, St. Paul (Lutheran) and St. Basil (Catholic) School, Bangor Public Schools and Trinity Evangelical Lutheran School in Bangor and Covert Public Schools. The area's public schools work cooperatively to prepare students for future careers through the Van Buren Technology Center, an extension of 11 local school districts in Van Buren County.
